How a Preppy Does Thrift

Every prep should know how to be a good thrifter, and to take it a step further we should all know how to customize our found treasures for ourselves. The other day I went to a local thrift store and dug around to find some great deals. So here's what I ended up with..

- Nautica Men's Button up
-Sleeveless Ralph Lauren Polo shirt
-A pair of high wasted Guess jeans
-Vintage looking sheer button up
-Multiple strand pearl necklace
ALL FOR ABOUT $25!! WAHOO

After bringing this bag of goodies home and washing the clothes I broke out my scissors and sewing machine and got to work.

My first project was the vintage button up and Guess jeans. What I did was cut out and hem the shoulders of the button up for a more modern and sexy look. After that, like so many more before me, I cut off those jeans for some high wasted hot pants. This would be ideal for school opening weekend ragers.

The next item I fell in love with was the pink Ralph Lauren Polo. Obviously there was no reason to cut this up, so I paired it was some white J. Crew shorts, Sperry's, and a white bow. So perfect for a summer day in the South.

The last little item I had to make my own was the Men's Nautica button up. I decided to make it into a summer kind of dress. This was a little harder than expected. I cut off the sleeves them had to sew them back up a bit so there wasn't a big ole gap. then I took it in the bottom sides so it wouldn't flare so much, and FINALLY hemmed the edges of the arm holes. This dress works for anything, dress it up for a date, or down for a shopping day.

E-mail me at classicallyprep@gmail.com for any questions on how I transformed these pieces :)
